Blog #9 - Is your current data supporting or not supporting your Change Project Goal?
My data is conflicting at this point.
My class's I-Ready scores on the Progress Monitoring have not increased. However, I am waiting for the next diagnostic in January to make a better determination on the Project's impact on I-Ready scores.
However, I am very pleased with the progress shown in skill assessments. Currently 10/18 students can count with a one to one correlation to 30. (Some can go even higher, this is where I stopped.) 7/18 can count orally to 100. 11/18 can write and recognize the numerals to 20. All 18 can use and demonstrate positional words and identify 2D shapes.
I too find it interesting when the i-ready does not always match up with what the students can do on a performance based assessment! Sometimes I feel like the i-ready tests them in such a strange way that they don't understand what they are asking rather than if they really know the material or not. I hope their scores increase by the mid year assessment!
ReplyDeleteTeacher observation is such a powerful method to assess. There are many things a computer cannot do. It looks like your students are progressing nicely on their skills assessments. It will be interesting to compare your observations with the MOY iReady results.
ReplyDeleteWow! Your students are progressing well in their Math skills! I am looking forward to hearing about your next i-Ready scores.
ReplyDeleteTeacher interaction and assessing students using your teacher superpowers always trumps online assessing. You know your kids better than anyone. It is nice to have a comparison but again, you are the one who makes the difference in a students achievement.
ReplyDeleteI have a question about the stats you shared. How do they compare with your students progress from years past?
I only have one year to compare to as last year was my first year in kindergarten. It is hard to compare this year's class to last year's as they are very different in many statistically important ways. My class last year was very average academically across the board. I did not have any identified ESE students or retentions or ESOL students. This year I am the inclusion class with two DD (developmentally delayed) students, two retentions, and 3 ESOL students. One of which is completely a non-English speaker.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately because of the later school start I do not have true beginning of year data to compare. My data comparison would have to start at the end of September. Comparing the data from the same time last year does not show a huge difference. Both groups scored similar on Iready math BOY (350 this year. 346 last year) However the range was remarkably different. (239 points this year 62 points last year) Other items show a similar pattern.
